Collective Worship
Collective Worship is a very important part of our school life. It is when the whole school (children and adults) comes together to focus on our Christian values, special religious events and other celebrations. During our daily Worship we have the opportunity to join in with prayers, songs and reflections. Collective Worship is inclusive, invitational and inspirational; offering everyone a safe space to 'be'.
Our cycle of Collective Worship through the week is:
- Monday (whole school worship based on Christian values, led by SLT)
- Tuesday (class reflection worship answering based on our 'big question' posed during Monday's worship, led by class teachers)
- Wednesday (whole school Picture News worship, led by a school leader)
- Thursday (worship led by Fr Chris)
- Friday (whole school Celebration Worship, led by SLT)
During the year 2024-2025 we will be developing our Pupil Leadership roles, including the roles of 'Leading Lights'. Our 'Leading Lights' will be children chosen from Key Stage 2 and their responsibilities will be to support the adult leading the worship (e.g. reading prayers, saying the Opening and Closing Blessings, taking part in drama) and to evaluate Collective Worship and suggest changes or improvements. 'Leading Lights' will also being to plan and lead Collective Worship themselves.
Our Collective Worship policy strengthens and supports the Christian identity of our school, and reaffirms our vision and core values of aspiration, courage, kindness, forgiveness, respect and community. Our worship reflects the variety of traditions found in the Church of England, and it follows the Christian liturgical year. The daily Christian act of worship is central to our ethos and is supported by all staff and governors. It makes an important contribution to the overall spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of the whole school community.
In our Whole School Collective Worship, we have low lighting and music playing as the children enter the hall to indicate that it is a distinct and special time. When everyone is gathered, we light the candle and say our Welcoming Blessing.
The lit candle is a sign to everyone that our Worship has started and it reminds us that Jesus it the light of the world. When we light our candle we also remind ourselves of our school vision to "Let Your Light Shine".
Our worship always follows the same structure:
GATHER
ENGAGE
RESPOND
SEND
To end our Collective Worship, we blow out the candle and say our Closing Blessing.
