Attendance

The Department for Education's School Attendance guide  (2020) states:
Central to raising standards in education and ensuring all pupils can fulfil their potential is an assumption so widely understood that it is insufficiently stated – pupils need to attend school regularly to benefit from their education. Missing out on lessons leaves children vulnerable to falling behind. Children with poor attendance tend to achieve less in both primary and secondary school.

Attendance and punctuality are important to us at St. Mary's C of E Primary Academy. Attendance in school is monitored by our Attendance Officer (Debbie Stanton) and by our Deputy Head teacher (Jessica Crisp). Both individual and class attendance is monitored and rewarded. Our Student Leaders will be reviewing and updating our attendance rewards during 2021-2022.

We monitor attendance at different levels.

Reporting Absence

If your child is going to be absent from school then you should telephone the school office to let us know. You can do this on 0113 2717204 and there is an option to leave a voicemail explaining your child's absence. You should do this before 9:15am each day that they are going to be absent.

Class teachers will take the register before 9:15am and at 1:15pm every day and they will report any absent children to the school office who will then follow our attendance procedures to find out why children are absent from school.

Holidays in term time will not be authorised and any planned absences must be approved by the Head teacher Trevor Marsden.

If your child is not well,  they should stay at home until they are well enough to return to school. If your child is not well in the morning but has improved by lunchtime they can be brought to school before 1:15pm in time for afternoon registration.

If a child becomes unwell whilst at school, we will contact parents/carers to collect them as soon as possible. We should have two emergency contact numbers for each child.
